Welcome to our site! Each week we will be uploading a blog or vlog regarding the oral health and systemic health link by discussing different diseases. Each topic will have a description of the disease, the link between oral health and systemic health, and ways to optimize oral health to reduce risks. Please follow, comment and share!
That was a very informative vlog. I believe that as a student dental hygienist, it is our responsibility to advocate about oral health issues. Cancer is definitely an important topic to cover. In fact, Harvard says that those who had gum disease had a 43% higher risk of developing esophageal cancer and a 52% higher risk of developing stomach cancer compared with people whose gums were healthier (Harvard Health Publishing, 2020). This definitely makes it very essential for us to let our clients know about the issues that might arise from gum disease or poor oral hygiene. Good job, Hannah!
